We live in an era of heightened mistrust in our institutions. People are questioning the advice of medical experts on vaccines, the need for public funding of research, and even the sanity of the academic elite. It has long been my belief that researchers should not be secluded in an ivory tower, but should be regularly engaging with the general public. Through thought-provoking conversations with scientists, my goal is to promote transparency by bringing the academic establishment — the Cathedral — to you.
My name is Tyler Yasaka, and I’m in a dual-degree MD/PhD program using both computational and experimental techniques to study liver biology, particularly in the context of cancer. I grew up in a small town in Alabama and until I began pursuing this career, scientific research felt inaccessible to me. This is and always will be a side project for me, and I will not run ads or make a penny from this work. All opinions I express are my own.
